The Walking Dead Spinoff Plot Teases Rick & Michonne Conflict
AMC has teased the upcoming The Walking Dead spinoff, starring Andrew Lincoln as Rick and Danai Gurira in her role as Michonne. However, the synopsis teases drama between the loving pair. Read on to find out what we know so far about The Walking Dead: Rick and Michonne.
The Walking Dead spinoff with Rick and Michonne
Andrew Lincoln has played the role of Rick Grimes from the very start of The Walking Dead season 1. However, fans will recall that a seriously wounded Rick was airlifted to an unknown community, while his friends presumed he was dead.
Meanwhile, Michonne, played by Danai Gurira, has also been absent from the show after finding out Rick was alive. On learning that fact, she embarked on a major search to find her beau. Moreover, Michonne’s search was teased during the couple’s return scene in The Walking Dead series finale. In fact, this will continue in the Rick and Michonne spinoff.
AMC reveals the TWD slate of spinoffs
In a recent press release, AMC announced the four spinoff series in The Walking Dead universe, including that with Rick and Michonne. Meanwhile, the synopsis reveals the ongoing story of Rick and Michonne finding each other and continuing their love story. However, it also hints at some conflict between the pair. Fans should get too excited yet, as that spinoff series only starts filming this year for a release in 2024.
The synopsis for Rick and Michonne’s spinoff reveals that the pair will reunite and will finally continue the journey of their characters in the TWD franchise, adding:
This series presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?
About Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead
Andrew Lincoln’s character, Rick Grimes, has shown throughout that family and friends are what is most important to him. He believes the hardships he has had to face are worth it if he can keep others safe.
In the main TWD timeline, Rick has been presumed dead after he blew up a bridge full of walkers and himself. However, the series finale teases his character as being caught by a CRM helicopter while attempting to escape. As the CRM has been revealed as an evil community in the franchise, they probably had him working for them, or as a prisoner. By the time Michonne finally finds Rick, he is likely to be a different Rick from the one she knows and loves.
Meanwhile, AMC is yet to announce how many seasons each of the three The Walking Dead spinoffs will have. As Gurira is busy with her role of Okoye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, other projects might prove difficult for a longer commitment. However, as a fan-favorite couple, viewers will likely need a longer spinoff to tell their story.
