Yellowstone star Kevin Costner is father to seven children, including three with his wife, Christina Baumgartner, 48. He and his wife have been married for 18 years and are parents to Cayden, 15, Hayes, 13, and Grace, 12. However, Costner also has four children from previous marriages, Annie, Lily, Joe and Liam.

Speaking to People, Costner said that fatherhood is a joy in his life, saying:

You’ve got to get down on the ground and play with them and you teach them to be independent.

However, he added that the sad part about that is they become that. Meanwhile, he added, “I’m like any other parent: I’m trying to figure it out.”

Meanwhile, the Yellowstone actor also shared that his son, Hayes had a role in his decision to join an upcoming epic Western, Horizon. In fact, his son is co-starring with him. Meanwhile, he added:

But I kind of did it on purpose, so he could be hanging out with me. And the same thing for Cayden, same thing for Grace. ‘This is really neat. You should come be with me.’

Costner said that when he isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with his family, just like any dad. He said:

I work as a provider. I’m a father and I’m a husband, but the world doesn’t revolve around me.

When I’m not making a movie, I’m living and on the freeway with my wife, getting the kids to their stuff or I’m waiting for them to come out of a party. I’m just twiddling my thumbs. People have a wrong idea about how my life works.

While Costner plays the role of a rancher in the series Yellowstone, he also channels John Dutton’s love for the natural wildlife in Yellowstone National Park. He stars in the new Fox Nation docuseries, Yellowstone: One-Fifty, which celebrates the park’s 150th birthday.

The Fox Nation series gives an inside look into the country’s oldest national park, where the actor explores the natural landscape. Meanwhile, he also traces the timeline of the park’s preservation.

“I’ve grown up with the word Yellowstone all my life,” Costner says. “When I finally saw pictures of it when I was younger, I began to understand what was maybe so special about it.”

In the four-part docuseries, Costner observes what makes the incredible scenery an “alien world” by tracing the footsteps of the 1871 Hayden expedition. That expedition is what helped to document much of the park’s scientific wonders and natural beauty. Meanwhile, this led to the formal creation of the first US National Park in 1872.

In the special, he says he is walking in the shadow of the pioneers, following the trail they blazed, adding:

To know that the river’s still flowing, these mountains still stand… I never tire of looking at them and the great open spaces appealed to me. And mountains that look like they would be impossible to travel through, they never fail to take my breath away.
