The Walking Dead: Dead City spoilers, news, and updates tease that a first look at Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) spinoff has been released. The first promotional images were released during the AMC Networks Summit.
“The city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror,” as per AMC.
Executive producer Scott M. Gimple described the spinoff as an “epic hate story,” which is a stark contrast to Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne’s (Danai Gurira) “epic love story.” In the promotional image, both characters are donning new looks compared to their appearance in The Walking Dead original series.

In an interview on Variety’s Strictly Business podcast, Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, said that The Walking Dead: Dead City is set on the island of Manhattan, approximately 12 years after walkers invaded the city. Back then, the government decided to block all the tunnels and bridges that connect the island to the world.
In the present time, the streets of Manhattan are now overrun by millions of walkers.
“Maggie and Negan have to journey onto the island, where there’s a small civilian [faction] that lives in Manhattan, above the 10th floor of all the buildings, and they zip-line back and forth above the streets,” McDermott said.
Fans will meet new characters, including Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles), Ginny (Mahina Napoleon), and “The Croat.”
The Walking Dead: Dead City is created and helmed by Eli Jorne. Morgan, Cohan, and Gimple serve as executive producers. The new TV series is set to premiere on AMC and AMC+ IN 2023. Meanwhile, The Walking Dead: The Last Episodes is scheduled to premiere on October 2.
Lauren Cohan Wants To Play Maggie Forever
In a recent interview with EW, Lauren Cohan, who plays the role of Maggie, said that she wants to play the role forever. She’s been playing Maggie on The Walking Dead series for 11 years.
“When people say to me, ‘Wow, you’ve been doing that show so long,’ I say, ‘And I hope I do it forever,” the actress said.
In the spinoff, fans can expect to see Maggie and Negan grow closer despite being each other’s nemesis on The Walking Dead original series.
