As we look forward to season 5 of Yellowstone in a couple of months, creator Taylor Sheridan and lead star Kevin Costner both have bad news. Costner hinted that we shouldn’t hope that John and Jamie will mend their relationship. Meanwhile, Sheridan compared the new season to chess, saying you can’t play it without taking pieces off the board.
Kevin Costner on Yellowstone season 5
So far, spoilers for season 5 of Yellowstone are few and far between. However, what with Instagram posts and interviews we have had a few hints. For instance, we know Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) will be happy at first, after the pressure she puts on her brother Jamie (Wes Bentley). Meanwhile, even though fans hope that the sibling rivalry can end, we are unlikely to see any resolution to the Dutton family’s problems.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight some time back, Kevin Costner was asked if Jamie could ever get back into John’s good graces. His response was pretty shocking, as he said:
Probably the show would end. [Laughs.] My dysfunctional family really disturbs me.
It is likely that the Dances With Wolves actor isn’t far off in his assessment. While Jamie and Kayce’s relationship is still intact, he can’t help but create rifts with John and Beth. Let’s face it, they now have Garrett’s murder to hold against Jamie.
Taylor Sheridan and his chess reference
Meanwhile, Yellowstone creator, Taylor Sheridan also teased action in season 5, hinting that bodies will pile up in the hit modern Western. In fact, those bodies could also involve the Dutton family. He went on to compare season 5 to a game of chess, saying you can’t play the game without taking chess pieces off the board.
Moreover, he didn’t hint at just one chess piece, which could have referred to Jamie, he hinted at plural chess pieces. Does this mean that Jamie will take someone with him as he goes? Surely, he’s not teasing that the pieces could involve Rip, Beth, Kayce, or Monica?
It isn’t too long until we find out more about Yellowstone season 5, as a double episode is set to drop on Paramount Network on November 13.
