Netflix To Release Money Heist Spin-Off Based On Fan-Favorite Berlin

Money Heist, or to give it the original title, La Casa de Papel was a major hit on Netflix and now a spin-off is planned. In fact, the spin-off will be a prequel featuring the fan-favorite character, Berlin. Read on to find out what we know so far about Alex Pina’s latest visit to the Money Heist universe seen at Tudum.
Money Heist spin-off about Berlin
Money Heist was one of the biggest hits ever for Netflix and while it’s over, it seems there is more to come. Admittedly, South Korea remade the series, but fans weren’t that impressed. However, a spin-off is planned by the creator of La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) giving an intro into the life of Berlin (played by Pedro Alonso).

After the huge success of Money Heist, rumors have been swirling around a possible spin-off. In fact, the creator of the show, Alex Pina has teased a spin-off on numerous occasions, including a teaser video in 2021 included below. The idea was to expand further into the characters we met in the original show.
At the recent Netflix TUDUM event, Pina said:
We already met Berlin in #LaCasaDePapel and now is the time for Andrés de Fonollosa. We can already announce that in 2023 the spin-off of his life will arrive.
More about Berlin on Netflix

Alex Pina will return as the creator and writer through his production company Vancouver Media. Also, as suggested by the title, the series will feature Berlin, or his actual name on the show, Andrés de Fonollosa, played by Pedro Alonso.
While Berlin’s past was briefly explored in season 5 of Money Heist, we are likely to learn more. We do know from the Netflix show that he had five ex-wives, including Tatiana (Diana Gómez). In the show, Berlin’s love life was described as the “five times that he believed in love.” As Berlin and the Professor (played by Álvaro Morte) are brothers, we could likely see more about their early years together.
Then there was a heist Berlin carried out in Champs-Élysées, Paris where he stole 434 diamonds. Possibly, we’ll actually get to see this famous heist in the spin-off.
Pedro Alonso and Alex Pina at Tudum 2022

Pedro Alonso and Alex Pina were at the Tudum event, discussing the upcoming spin-off (or prequel). When asked what the new series was about, Pina’s first words were, “Love and heists.” He added that the series will be a trip through the golden years of the character. A time when he was stealing all over Europe and madly in love.
The script was written by Alex Pina, David Oliva, Esther Martinez Lobato and David Barrocal.
When will Berlin release on Netflix?
So far, the official release date on Netflix is unknown, but we do know Berlin will premiere in 2023. Watch the Tudum event below.
