Fans of the original Beverly Hills Cop movies have been waiting a long time for a sequel to the classic comedy franchise. Finally, their dreams have come true as Netflix announces that Eddie Murphy will star in a latest sequel. Meanwhile, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Taylour Paige have also been cast in the comedy. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley stars Eddie Murphy and more
Netflix is working on a sequel for the popular Beverly Hills Cop movies, starring the original Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley. Meanwhile, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Taylour Paige have joined the cast. As for the name, the Netflix movie will be titled Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley.
Reportedly, production has already begun on the series, with Mark Molloy directing. Meanwhile, besides playing Axel Foley, Murphy will produce along with Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman of Jerry Bruckheimer Films. Charisse Hewitt-Webster and Ray Angelic will executive produce with Melissa Reid of Jerry Bruckheimer Films co-producing. Moreover, the script is penned by Will Beall.
About the franchise
The popular franchise moved from Paramount to Netflix in 2019. Originally, in 1984, it followed the adventures of Detroit Cop Axel Foley, and then followed him to Beverly Hills to solve a friend’s murder.
The movie became one of the year’s biggest hits and launched Eddie Murphy to movie star status. That hit was followed by two sequel movies in 1987 and 1994.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Taylour Paige
According to Uproxx, Joseph Gordon-Levitt has recently been busy with multiple projects in recent years. These include the popular Netflix Project Power and the Oscar-nominated The Trial of the Chicago 7. Recently, he has been busy with movie and TV projects, including the Showtime series Super Pumped, where he played Travis Kalanik, the Uber creator.
Gordon-Levitt will also voice Jiminy Cricket in Disney’s Pinocchio. Moreover, he recently wrapped production on the drama Providence where he stars opposite Lily James. For many of us, Joe will always be remembered as the kid alien on Third Rock from the Sun.
Meanwhile, following her breakout role in the A24 movie Zola, Paige has been in demand and has already enjoyed a busy 2022. Most recently, Taylour starred in the Lena Dunham movie Sharp Stick, which premiered at Sundance. Moreover, she also starred in Mack & Rita and has several films in the works, including The Toxic Avenger reboot with Peter Dinklage.
