It was recently reported that Ellen Pompeo is cutting back on her role in season 19 of Grey’s Anatomy. She will appear in only eight episodes of the upcoming season, due to executive producing and starring in a new Hulu series. Fellow cast member Jesse Williams was asked about the story in a recent E! News Pop, and said he isn’t too worried about major changes in the show.

While Jesse Williams has left his job at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, he is still fond of the show that kickstarted his career. He previously played the role of Jackson Avery in Grey’s Anatomy.

Meanwhile, Jesse was interviewed and asked about the Ellen Pompeo cutting back on her role in season 19. In fact, Dr. Meredith Grey will only feature in eight episodes of the new upcoming season.

Currently, many fans are worried that Pompeo cutting her role is the end of an era for the hit medical drama. However, the actor who plays Jackson Avery revealed he isn’t worried and fully supports his former co-star’s decision. He said:

That woman has worked so hard all year, every year for 20 years for that franchise.

Whatever time she takes off is well-earned, and I’m sure they have a master plan.

About Ellen Pompeo’s new project for Hulu

Grey’s Anatomy fans are thrilled to hear about Ellen’s new executive producing and acting project for Hulu. In the orphan-adoption limited series, Pompeo leads opposite UK actor, Imogen Reid as the adopted daughter.

The series is based on a true-life story of a Midwestern couple who adopt a young girl (Reid) with a rare form of dwarfism. Once the couple starts raising the child alongside their other three children, something isn’t right. In fact, they begin to suspect that the girl might not be who she says she is. They begin to believe that the girl is an adult, conning the couple.

Season 19 of Grey’s Anatomy

While Dr. Meredith Grey will be absent for many of the episodes, Grey Sloan Memorial will be kept busy with five new first-year surgical residents joining the cast. James Pickens, Jr., who stars as Dr. Richard Webber, recently shared an image of the new cast members.

The new stars, pictured above, are Niko Terho, Adelaide Kane, Midori Francis, Harry Shum Jr. and Alexis Floyd. Getting to know the new residents will keep Grey’s Anatomy fans busy until Pompeo finishes her work with Hulu and once again returns full-time.

Meanwhile, after Jesse Williams recently returned to the show and rekindled his romance with Sarah Drew’s character, Dr. April Kepner, fans want more. As fans know, he once again left the series but was asked if there was any chance of reprising his role with Sarah. Speaking of a possible spinoff for Jackson and April, he said:

That thing would probably write itself and do very, very well.

And [Sarah]’s the best. She’s one of my single favorite people on the planet.

Fingers crossed that we may see Jesse and Sarah returning to the little screen together.

Season 19 of Grey’s Anatomy will premiere on October 6, at 9 pm ET on ABC.
