Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 Spoilers: Some Old, Some New

According to TV Insider, it was recently announced that there would be five new first-year surgical residents joining the Grey Sloan Memorial staff this fall. Portraying the young surgeons will be Harry Shum Jr. of All My Life, Adelaide Kane of Can’t Buy Me Love, Alexis Floyd of The Bold Type, Niko Terho from The Thing About Harry, and Midori Francis from Afterlife of the Party.

In her tweet, Scorsone addressed the new cast as well as the old, writing, “The classic cast is ready and revving. The new cast additions are exciting and gorgeous. Inside and out. Here we go.”

Who are The New Surgical Residents?

Fans may recall that, in the season 18 finale, the hospital’s teaching program was nixed and ordered to rebuild. Harry Shum Jr., who is set to portray a gifted resident, is being described as “sharp-witted and impatient,” and Adelaine Kane plays Jules Millin, a young surgeon raised by drug-addicted hippies.

Alexis Floyd who recently wrapped a breakout role as Neff in Inventing Anna will be filling the role of Seattle native Simone Griffin who reportedly never wanted to work at the hospital due to a painful history. Niko Terho plays the surgeon trying to prove something, Lucas Adams, and Midori Francis portrays Mika Yasuda, middle child in a large family, who is accustomed to being underestimated or, otherwise, overlooked.

What Happened to Teddy and Owen?

According to Us Weekly, some of the interns and residents from Season 18, such as Taryn Helm (Jaicy Elliot) and Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli) are getting transferred to other hospitals while Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) are now on the lamb after it was reported that Owen was illegally assisting veterans with suicide.

Miranda Baily (Chandra Wilson) who helped Owen and Teddy abscond, has quit the hospital and, of course, Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) took a break while coming to terms with the closure of the program he had helped form.
