Yellowstone fans love the prequel series 1883 and for those missing the 1800s, Emily Blunt’s new limited series for Prime Video (formerly Amazon Prime) is epic. Read on to find out more about The English, coming to Prime Video in November and see first-look images from the show.
Emily Blunt in The English on Prime Video
While Yellowstone is a modern Western series, its prequel, 1883, took fans back to the Wild West. Needless to say, they loved it. However, for anyone missing the 1800s, worry not, as English actress Emily Blunt will star in a new, 1800s-related, six-part series. Titled The English, the new show launches on Prime Video in November.
The six-part, 19th-century drama features Blunt in a rare TV role, and is described as “an epic chase Western.” Reportedly, the series “takes the core themes of identity and revenge to tell a uniquely compelling parable on race, power and love.”
What is the plot of the new Western drama?
According to Prime Video, The English tells the story of an aristocratic English woman, Lady Cornelia Locke (Blunt, A Quiet Place). It also features a Pawnee ex-cavalry scout, Eli Whipp (Chaske Spencer, Sneaky Pete). The pair comes together in 1890 America to cross a violent landscape built on dreams and blood.
Both of them have a clear sense of their destiny, but neither is aware that it is rooted in a shared past. They must face increasingly terrifying obstacles that will test them to their limits, physically and psychologically.
Meanwhile, as they overcome each obstacle, this draws them closer to their ultimate destination: the new town of Hoxem, Wyoming. Here, following an investigation by the local sheriff, Robert Marshall (Stephen Rea, The Shadow Line) and a young widow Martha Myers (Valerie Pachner, A Hidden Life) launch into a series of bizarre and macabre unsolved murders. Moreover, the full extent of their intertwined history will be truly understood. They will come face-to-face with the future they must live.
Other cast members in The English on Prime Video
Meanwhile, other cast members of the Western series include Rafe Spall (The Salisbury Poisonings), Tom Hughes (A Discovery of Witches), Ciarán Hinds (The Terror) and Toby Jones (The Detectorists).
Behind the scenes of the Prime Video limited series
The creator of The English is Hugo Blick (The Honourable Woman), who is also a writer, director and executive producer. Meanwhile, other executive producers are Emily Blunt and Greg Brenman (Peaky Blinders, The Honourable Woman). Colin Wratten (Killing Eve) serves as a producer.
As a reminder, The English will premiere on Prime Video in November, following its UK premiere on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.
