Folks, wait, hold on now, before you say anything, trust me, I know how hot what I’m about to share is, but I must warn you, this information contains spoilers for the future, so, are you sure you’re up for it? Hahaha, I ask this because I know that once you start reading this, there’s no going back, you have to finish what you started, so I ask again, are you up for this? Did I just hear “bring it on?” Okay, let’s Go!
The Boys — A Character Would Have Been Killed Off, But Not Anymore
We all watched the season 3 finale of this Amazon Prime Video Series “The Boys”, and boy! It was something!.
Now, as if the way the season 3 finale ended didn’t have us screaming out our lungs enough, the showrunner Eric Kripke made some exclusive revelations to E! News about how he would have killed off a major character permanently in the movie. Calm down, it may be your favorite, it may not, either way, just remember, I warned ya.
At this point, let me relieve your tension by telling you that Eric changed his mind, the character is not going anywhere, at least for now. Oh, did I mention who he is? The character is Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy, remember how the episode ended with him being put back on ice (a.k.a. in an induced coma à la Captain America).
I bet you all want to what changed his mind, well, “It was fan service!” the executive producer joked meaning that Ackles has done we for himself by garnering devoted followers from his 15-season run on The CW’s Supernatural, which Kripke created.
Also, Eric used a showrunner rule to explain, “Never close a door if you don’t have to, that’s an old showrunner rule, going way back. You never know who can come back or not, so never shut off your options.”
The Boys — Another Reason For Keeping The Character
Of course, there are a whole lot of reasons why Soldier Boy who we got to find out during the July 1 episode is Homelander’s biological father which resulted in a dramatic showdown between the two supes in the finale—ultimately survived.
Another strong reason why soldier boy has to be kept alive, at least for now, has to do with Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott), remember how Queen Maeve sacrificed herself by jumping off the tower with him. While the world is led to believe she died, Maeve actually survived the fall and is going off the grid with her girlfriend Elena (Nicola Correia-Damude), though she’s lost her powers.
“It was always the plan and super important that Maeve survive,” Eric told E!. “I was not going to be the show that killed off a LGBTQ character. That was not going to be this show because I really agree that it’s a shitty trope.”
However, it was, as Eric put it, “confusing” from a storytelling standpoint.
“We were like, ‘Well, she survives but he doesn’t?'” he continued. “And so it made a lot more sense to put him on ice and send her off to a happy ending.”
