Netflix is filming the “genre-bending series” Kaos, that puts a modern twist on Greek and Roman mythology. According to Netflix, the mystical drama explores themes of gender politics, power and life in the underworld. Since the series was first announced by Deadline, filming has been ongoing in Marbella on Spain’s Costa del Sol.

Netflix filming ‘genre-bending’ series Kaos

Recently, residents in the exclusive residential development of Los Altos de Marbella reported seeing a lot of action. In fact, many cars, trailers and caravans were heading towards a mansion in the upmarket neighborhood. Meanwhile, a temporary car park was set up on land nearby (see image below). While locals tried to find out more about the series, high fences have been erected around the property to keep things as private as possible.

Sur in English reports that local extras have been hired, but their cellphones have been taken away to stop them from filming the actors of the set.

However, Marbella isn’t the only Spanish filming location for the Kaos, In fact, later scenes will be filmed in the Axarquia area, in Malaga city, Sevilla, Madrid and Valencia.

Cast of the new Netflix series

The Netflix series Kaos was originally commissioned in 2018 and features an international cast. One of its leads is British actor Hugh Grant (The Undoing), as the Greek god Zeus. Meanwhile, Grant already owns a luxurious property in Marbella, so is no doubt, a regular visitor to the city.

However, other stars include Janet McTeer (Ozark), Nabhaan Rizwa (Station 11) and Cliff Curtis (Avatar: The Way of Water). Also starring are David Thewlis (Fargo), Killian Scott (Dublin Murders) and Misia Butler (The School for Good and Evil).  Meanwhile other stars include Leila Farzad (I Hate Suzie), Rakie Ayola (The Pact) and Stanley Townsend (The Current War).

More about the plot of Kaos

According to Deadline, the series is to be a bold, darkly comic, contemporary take on Greek mythology. It will explore love, life and power in the underworld. Meanwhile, the Greek gods will wear tracksuits rather than togas.

Meanwhile, Hugh Grant portrays the seemingly all-powerful, but desperately insecure god, Zeus. It seems he has long enjoyed his status as King of the Gods until one morning he wakes up and finds a wrinkle on his forehead. This leads to Zeus setting off on a dangerous and paranoid path while becoming convinced his fall is coming, as he sees signs of this everywhere.

Meanwhile, his once-reliable brother, Hades (Thewlis), the God of the Underworld is also losing his grip on his dark dominion. In fact, there is a backlog of dead people waiting to be processed and they are growing restless.

However, Hera (McTeer) is the Queen of the Gods. In fact, she exercises dominion on Earth, and over Zeus, in her own way. However, Zeus’ growing paranoia threatens her power and freedom and she is forced to act. Meanwhile, Zeus’s rebellious son, Dionysus (Rizwan) is out of control and is on course for a cosmic collision with his dad.

So far, the release date by Netflix of the new series Kaos is unknown, but as soon as we know, you will know.
