Magnum P.I. Gets Saved After Recent Cancellation By CBS

Magnum P.I. spoilers and updates tease that the show has been renewed by NBC. The news came out a month after CBS canceled the action drama, which stars Jay Hernandez.

The recently canceled TV series was renewed recently. A deal took place allowing NBC to order 20 new episodes. These episodes will be split into two seasons. With the upcoming episodes combined, the show will now have a total of 96 episodes.

Aside from Hernandez, the upcoming seasons will star Perdita Weeks, Zachary Knighton, Stephen Hill, Tim Kang and Amy Hill. The executive producers are Eric Guggenheim, Justin Lin, John Davis and John Fox. Magnum P.I. will be co produced by CBS Studios and Universal TV.

Magnum P.I’s Cancellation

Magnum P.I.’s fourth season on CBS had a total number of viewers of 7.3 million. It also garnered a demo rating of 0.7. Based on the figures, Magnum P.I. ranked ninth in all of the TV series that aired on DBS this season. Meanwhile, it took the fifth spot among all the current dramas on NBC.

Magnum P.I. ran for four seasons before it was canceled on May 12. When news broke about the cancellation, Universal Television immediately scouted for new possible homes for the series and the primary contenders were USA Network and NBC.

Cast Reacts To Magnum P.I. Renewal

The lead star, Jay Hernandez, responded to news about the renewal of Magnum P.I. The show is returning for a fifth and sixth season with 10 episodes. A source told TVLine that the show may be renewed for more seasons in the future.

Magnum P.I. is only one of the many other TV shows that got saved after getting canceled. These shows include 60-plus, All Rise, Manifest, and Lucifer.

“It was a bit circuitous but we did it! Your love & support helped get us over the finish line, thank you & thanks to @nbc for stepping up! Time to dust off the Aloha shirt! #ohana,” Hernandez tweeted.

Zachary Knighton posted on Instagram and wrote “Goonies Never Say Die” while Stephen Hill tweeted “aloha nui loa a hui hou,” or “love you so much.”

Perdita Weeks also took to Instagram to express her excitement. She posted a photo of herself and captioned it “Off to see the ohana. #Season 5.”
