Justin Hartley Stars In NEW CBS Show, 'The Never Game'!

Even before This Is Us ended, Justin Hartley fans hoped that the Young And The Restless star would return to his soap opera home. But alas. And while Y & R fans can still hope, for now Hartley made a commitment in a different direction. Justin just scored an order for a pilot for his new show.

Find out all about Hartley’s plans after starring on This Is Us for six seasons. And learn how the role he will play on his new show contrasts dramatically with his former character. Catch up with Justin Hartley below!

Justin Hartley Lands Pilot Order From CBS!

NBC scored a win when it took a chance on the then-risky premise of This Is Us. Because the show traveled in time, some reviewers initially questioned whether viewers would take time to follow the complicated plot. But the cast including Justin Hartley, Milo Ventimiglia, Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz, and Mandy Moore proved so stellar that viewers stayed loyal for its six seasons.

And now CBS hopes that one of those actors can do just as well for its network. Justin Hartley wears two hats for his new show, reported Deadline. First, Hartley will take on the role of executive producer in creating the pilot for The Never Game. And second, Justin will take on the leading role in the project.

But the history of how the pilot ended up at CBS involves several shifts. Although the network started planning the drama series adaptation of Jeffery Deaver’s novel in September 2021, Hartley had signed a contract with This Is Us. As a result, director Ken Olin and 20th Television needed to delay their schedule.

Justin Hartley Stars As ‘Lone Wolf Survivalist’

This Is Us fans who loved Justin’s outgoing personality as Kevin Pearson may need to adjust. Because in The Never Game, Hartley portrays a man described as a “lone wolf survivalist.” Named Colter Shaw, Justin’s character treks around the country seeking opportunities to utilize his tracking skills. Known as a “reward seeker,” Shaw seeks to play detective to aid law enforcement and private citizens. But he also must deal with his personal family issues.

In addition to the schedule delay, the project changed writers along the way. Writer Michael Cooney left the project, with Ben Winters replacing him. As a result, Winters succeeded in delivering his script to CBS earlier this month. And the execs reportedly liked it so much that they fast-tracked it.

Hartley no longer works with the other This Is Us co-stars. But many of them are staying busy as well. For instance, Milo Ventimiglia and Chris Sullivan both have landed pilots at ABC. And Justin feels excited to look ahead. “I couldn’t be happier that The Never Game is coming to CBS, and that Colter Shaw will be brought to life on screen soon,” gushed Hartley. “When I read the book, I was immediately drawn to the character and the story; developing this project with Ken has been a true labor of love. Colter is going to kick some serious a*s, and I can’t wait for audiences to meet him.”
