Harry Shum Jr. joins Grey’s Anatomy cast
It is always good to see new faces in ABC’s famous medical drama, which is heading to its nineteenth season. New cast members keep fans interested as the series heads into another great season.
The show had already taken on Alexis Floyd, Adelaide Kane, Midori Francis and Niko Terho as first-year surgical residents. Now, Harry Shum Jr. rounds off the group and Grey Sloan Memorial rebuilds its teaching program.

Deadline notes that Shum plays Daniel “Blue” Kwan, a sharp-witted, impatient and brilliant doctor. Meanwhile, he is naturally gifted, generous by nature, but competitive by nature. Due to the latter, he is used to winning at everything. However, a crisis in his family interfered with his career plans and Kwan now has a lot to prove.
Judging by the description, there is likely a backstory to address why Daniel is older than the typical medical resident.
Where have we seen Harry Shum Jr. before?

Shum is no stranger to entertainment and is known for starring in Glee and Shadowhunters. Meanwhile, he also produced and co-choreographed The LXD (Legion of Extraordinary Dancers) a Hulu dance series created by Jon M. Chu. Since then, Chu has also directed Shum in the movie Crazy Rich Asians.
Moreover, Shum will reprise his role as Charlie Wu in an upcoming spinoff of Crazy Rich Asians. The spinoff is set to feature Gemma Chan’s character, Astrid Young Teo, and her romance with Charlie. Meanwhile, Shum also plays a lead role in the 2022 indie hit, Everything Everywhere All At Once

Back in 2021, the actor starred with Nina Dobrev and Jimmy O. Yang in the holiday movie Love Hard on Netflix. Moreover, Shum also partnered with The Conscious Kid, while working with the organization’s Anti-Racist Children’s Book Education Fund initiative.
With a background like that, Harry Shum Jr. can only add to the popularity of ABC’s long-running medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy.
