Fans of The Handmaid’s Tale have been waiting impatiently for news of season 5 of the hit dystopian series. However, the wait is almost up as Hulu reveals that the release date for the fifth season is coming in September 2022. Meanwhile, the network also released some new, haunting images from the new season.
About season 5 of The Handmaid’s Tale
The fifth season of The Handmaid’s Tale will see June facing the consequences of killing Commander Waterford. Meanwhile, in the aftershock of season 4, our heroine is struggling to redefine her identity and purpose.
As noted by Looper, the widowed Serena will be trying to improve her profile in Toronto, as Gilead’s reach spills over into Canada. Meanwhile, season 5 will see Commander Lawrence and Aunt Lydia working in an effort to rise to power and reform Gilead. As for June, Luke and Moira, they will battle Gilead from afar, while continuing to search for, and save, June’s daughter, Hannah.
New images from the dystopian Hulu series
As well as the release date, Hulu released two new images of June and Serena, the two contrasting characters from the show. One features June, previously known in Gilead as Offred, wearing white, with a stern expression. This follows the murder of Commander Waterford, where June is clearly ready for a fight.
Meanwhile, Commander Waterford’s widow, Serena, is clad in mourning clothes, with a black veil and dress. However, instead of looking mournful, Serena has a small smile on her face and she looks at an unseen object.
Cast of The Handmaid’s Tale
The dystopian series, The Handmaid’s Tale first premiered on Hulu in 2017. In the series, Elisabeth Moss plays the protagonist, June. Meanwhile, Yvonne Strahovski plays Command Waterford’s widow, Serena. Other stars include Samira Wiley, Bradley Whitford, Ann Dowd, Max Minghella, O-T Fagbenie, Madeline Brewer, Sam Jaeger and Amanda Brugel.
