Julianna Margulies May Not Return For The Good Fight Final Season
The Good Fight spoilers and updates tease that Julianna Margulies won’t be returning as Alicia Florrick for the show’s final season. The show’s co-creator Michelle King dropped the news after it was revealed last week that the legal spinoff’s sixth season will be the last.
King, who also serves as the show’s executive producer said, “It’s not our expectation that she is going to come back.”
The show previously approached Margulies to appear for a three-episode arc in season 3. Unfortunately, the plan didn’t work out because of some disconnect in their financial negotiations.
Julianna Margulies Declines Guest Star Rate
In a previous interview with Deadline back in 2019, Margulies revealed that the streamer, Paramount+, which was formerly known as CBS All Access, “refused to pay” her the salary which she earned per episode on The Good Wife. The actress claimed that the streamer wanted to pay her a guest star rate.
Margulies declined the offer and argued that she wasn’t a guest star. She played the lead role in the original series, The Good Wife.
“I wanted to be paid my worth and stand up for equal pay. If Jon Hamm came back for a Mad Men spinoff or Kiefer Sutherland wanted to do a 24 spinoff, they would be paid,” Margulies said.
Julie McNamara, who was the EVP of Original Content during that time, confirmed that they offered Margulies to guest star on the show. However, they didn’t have the same financial expectation so the plan didn’t work out.
Fans may recall that The Good Fight is a spin-off of CBS’ The Good Wife. Margulies played the lead role and appeared in all seven seasons from 2009 to 2016. The legal spinoff was launched in 2017 and Christine Baranski played the lead role of Diane Lockhart.
The Good Fight: The Final Season
Paramount+ announced that The Good Fight’s sixth season will be its last. The final season, which is currently in production in New York City, is scheduled to premiere on September 8.
Robert and Michelle King, who helmed the show, were grateful that the show lasted for six seasons. It allowed them to tell stories and got to work with talented actors, writers, and crew.
“Our hope-slash-scheme is to find ways to work with all of them again in the future,” they said in a statement.
