Chrissy Metz Spills This Is Us Spoilers
This Is Us gave Chrissy Metz the chance to show her acting depth in portraying Kate. And Chrissy told People that she feels so close to her character that she got upset with the episode called “Family Meeting.” As a result, Metz admitted that seeing Kate’s mother Rebecca (Mandy Moore) suffer with dementia struck home.
Because Kate has suffered so much emotional pain in her life, the character has felt challenged to trust herself. But after her battle with Toby, having her mother select her as her caretaker helped Kate’s self-confidence, pointed out Chrissy. “I think it really bolstered her. She was like, ‘Yeah, you know what? I am more powerful and more intelligent and trustworthy.'”
As a result, Metz now sees Kate becoming a heroine. And as she gains enough confidence to make a decision, Kate plays a pivotal role in the final episodes of This Is Us. Looking ahead, Chrissy offered some clues to what fans can expect at the end. “This show has always been so brilliant about showing [how] as we age, and our parents age, we experience all of these beautiful moments in our lives,” reflected the actress. “It’s so bittersweet that our parents teach us, through the way that they care for us, how eventually to care for them — if we’re lucky enough.”
Mandy Moore Reflects On Rebecca’s End
This Is Us forever changed Mandy Moore’s life. And as the actress who plays Rebecca looks ahead, she told Today that the final episodes will reveal how her character’s dementia impacts everyone in the Pearson family. But fans hoping for a magical cure for Rebecca will need to go through heartbreak.
“I think being able to sort of see that broad scope of the totality of a disease like this and the toll that it takes on the family in general, has been really important,” shared Mandy. And despite the sorrow ahead, Moore also pointed out the positive aspect of Rebecca’s journey. “Because she’s so dignified in her response to what she knows is coming for her,” she shared.
As a result, as an actress, Mandy admits struggling with staying true to her character. “So it’s like not letting that interfere with what the character is going through has been the most challenging part,” confessed the star. “Like going back to my trailer and just letting myself have the emotion.”
But Moore also hopes that the last episodes featuring Rebecca can help those who experience a similar journey. “I imagine it’s such an isolating, terrifying experience as a caregiver and as a family member to watch your loved one go through this,” pointed out the actress. “And I think things become a little less scary when they’re more known and we’re able to talk about them a bit more. I really loved that aspect of it.”
