The smash-hit Spanish drama series Welcome to Eden is set to return to Netflix for a second season. While it hasn’t been officially announced by Netflix, season 2 will reportedly be happening. Read on to find out what we know so far.

Welcome to Eden on Netflix

In recent years, a number of very popular Spanish shows like Money Heist and Elite have attracted a huge audience of fans. Fast forward to now, and Spain’s latest gripping hit drama series, Welcome to Eden, has also attracted viewers thanks to Netflix’s excellent dubbing.

Welcome to Eden was created by Joaquín Górriz and Guillermo López and produced by Brutal Media. Meanwhile, the series was filmed on the beautiful Canary Islands of Lanzarote and San Sebastián de la Gomera. Meanwhile, mainland scenes were filmed in the Spanish province of Teruel.

Moreover, the series follows the story of a group of influencers, invited to a part on the remote island of Eden. However, what seems at first to be a paradise, is actually home to a dangerous cult with the aim to change the world.

Spanish series renewed for season 2

While Netflix has made no announcement as to the renewal of Welcome to Eden, a second season was reported by a Spanish news outlet in April. Prior to the premiere of season 1, Heraldo reported that the streamer had already renewed the series for a second season.

According to that report (In Spanish), the series was so good, that Matarraña will once again be the film set for season 2. In fact, they report that filming will start shortly. However, it is unusual to renew a series for a second season before the first has aired. Normally, this is reserved for Netflix Originals that are believed will do well.

Welcome to Eden season 1 a popular hit

Since the series first aired globally on Netflix on May 6, it has quickly become one of the most popular non-English dramas on the streamer. In fact, the streamer’s data revealed that it had quickly risen to second place in the non-English global top ten list. While the viewing data for the second week of Welcome to Eden has yet to drop, the series is sure to have attracted tens of millions of more hours watched.

Looking at the local top ten list, the drama is trending at number one in Spain, its language home. However, it has made the top ten lists in 83 countries, with number 2 in the US and number 3 in the UK.

What can we look forward to in season 2 of Welcome to Eden?

Warning: Spoilers ahead for those who have not yet watched the series. During the cliffhanger final episode, it looked like Zoa was going to be able to escape from the island. She is about to swim out to the boat that had just brought the latest batch of victims. Meanwhile, as Zoa’s sister Gabi is on the boat, fans are worried that Zoa won’t be there to protect her.

Of course, Gabi has no idea what she has let herself into and as Zoa finds out her sister is on the boat she is likely to be torn between standing with Gabi or escaping herself. As viewers know, no one ends up on the island by accident, as all are individually invited. This leaves fans to wonder if inviting Gabi is a ploy to make Zoa stay on Eden. Alternatively, is there an even more sinister game going on?

Meanwhile, Astrid has received death threats and her partner, Erick, has been injured in a failed assassination attempt. It is only thanks to the mysterious Isaac and his medical skills that he has survived. So far, it is unclear who actually stabbed Erick, but it is likely we will know more once season 2 drops.

Moreover, in the finale, Africa discovered a mysterious machine in the basement of Astrid and Erick’s home. Without knowing what the machine does, she presses a button that activates a mysterious antenna on the island, which sends a signal to outer space. Does this mean that Astrid and Erick have access to potential ETs? Alternatively, is the antenna used to communicate with the masterminds behind the creation of Eden.

When could season 2 premiere?

Obviously, with the news so far unconfirmed by Netflix, there is currently no hint as to when Welcome to Eden season 2 will arrive. However, as soon as the news is out, we will let you know.
