Lina Esco Leaves S.W.A.T. After Five Seasons

S.W.A.T. spoilers and updates tease that Lina Esco is leaving the show after five seasons. The actress said that her decision was one of the most difficult ones she had to make.

The show already laid out Esco’s exit storyline. Fans may recall that Esco’s character, Officer Christine “Chris” Alonso, has expressed her plans to leave the team. She told Jim Street (Alex Russell) that she wants to take over Mama Pina, who’s currently in the hospital.

Mama Pina is someone who takes in immigrant women in her safe house. In an interview with TVLine, Esco shared how she loves the Mama Pina storyline.

“It resonates with Chris because this is a woman providing a safe house to women who have no hope in other countries and who escape for a better life,” she explained.

“Chris has become very invested in volunteering and being a part of that,” she shared.

Esco’s decision to leave comes after the show was renewed for a sixth season back in April. The show is set to return for a new season on CBS this fall.

Chris Bids Teammates Farewell

Esco, who made her directing debut on the show this spring, appeared on her last episode on S.W.A.T in Sunday night’s season finale. She spent the night with Street and gave her teammates gifts to remember her by.

Esco said that it’s a pleasure to play her alter ego. She described Chris as a “strong, smart, bisexual character.” Portraying her character gave her a chance to make diverse women more visible to the world.

The actress revealed that she’s leaving the show to pursue new creative endeavors. She expressed her excitement in starting a new chapter in her life and stepping out of her comfort zone. She thanked her S.W.A.T family, including the other cast members, writers, and producers.

She had an “incredible journey.” She also thanked the amazing fans of the show for their support.

S.W.A.T Showrunners Wish Esco The Best Of Luck

As for S.W.A.T’s showrunners, they only had good things to say about the actress. Esco has been with the show for five seasons and 106 episodes. They said it was a pleasure to work with her throughout that period. Her impeccable performance helped make her character a fan favorite and an iconic one.

They learned about Esco’s plans to pursue other endeavors a year ago. They did their best to make sure that the actress and her alter ego will be given a proper sendoff. They will surely miss Esco, but they also wish her the best in everything that she does moving forward.
