On average, an adult will experience between two and five colds each year. Children, however, suffer far more often than this, with anywhere between seven and ten colds a year. Sometimes, if you’re particularly unlucky, you’ll find that every member of your household appears to be struggling at the same time.

To help you all feel a little better, a little faster, we’ve put together some tips for how you and your loved ones can focus on minimizing the spread of germs in the household, and overcoming common cold symptoms.
1. Stock Up on the Essentials
First of all, make sure that you have all of the essentials on hand for managing cold and flu. You’ll need temperature-controlling products like paracetamol, along with hot drinks, hand sanitizer, good quality tissues, and plenty of chicken soup and fruit juices.
2. Remember that One Size Doesn’t Fit All
When it comes to cold and flu relief, remember that “one size” doesn’t always apply to everyone. Cold and cough products that are designed for adults aren’t always appropriate for children, so if you’re unsure, make sure to check with your pharmacy about what’s appropriate for your youngsters.
3. Rest as Much as Possible
When you’ve got a family to look after, it can be very tough to convince yourself to get the rest you need, but the truth is that the only way you’re going to get over a cold, is with plenty of sleep. Your body needs to fight off the infection, so make sure that you get to bed early, and rest wherever you can.
4. Avoid Sharing the Germs
To avoid keeping the cold going for longer than you need to, it’s important to prevent the spread of germs. This means avoiding sharing glasses, towels, and other utensils. Also, make sure that you use good-quality tissues that aren’t going to break down when you sneeze into them!
5. Stay Hydrated!
Finally, even if no-one in your family feels like eating much, it’s crucial to stay hydrated when you have a cold. Your body naturally becomes more dehydrated when fighting an infection, and plenty of fluids can be crucial to banishing illness faster!
