Autumn is the ideal time for activities for the kids. With the leaves changing colors, freshly baked apple pie and pumpkin carving, the ideas for activities are overflowing. But you also want the activities to be a learning experience for them as well. Here are some educational autumn activities for kids.
Making an Apple Smile
Fall is a great time for apple picking and they are healthy to eat as well. Here is a cool snack kids can make with apples. Besides apples, you will also need peanut butter and miniature marshmallows. Cut an apple into 6 or 8 slices. Spread peanut butter on one side of each apple slice and then use the miniature marshmallows to put on top of the peanut butter to make a smile.
A placemat made from leaves is great to display on your kitchen table this fall. All you need is some clear contact paper and some leaves. For each placemat, you will need 2 pieces of clear contact paper, each cut about 2 feet long. Then, take off the backing on one piece of contact paper and stick the leaves on the sticky side. Next, take the backing off the other piece of contact paper and place over the sheet, with the leaves in the middle.
Roasted Pumpkin Seeds
After carving pumpkins for Halloween, save the seeds and roast them for a healthy, delicious snack. You will need 1 cup of pumpkin seeds, 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and 1 teaspoon of seasoning like salt, chili powder or seasoning salt. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees. Wash the seeds in cold water and then use a paper towel to pat them dry. In a large bowl, combine the three ingredients and mix until seeds are coated well. Spread the seeds out on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes, then turn the seeds over and bake an additional 10-15 minutes.
