No one wants to spend hours in the kitchen toiling over treats and snacks for any party. Independence Day is about celebrating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Fireworks usually fill the night skies and parties take place across America. So, spend your time with your family instead of the kitchen with this easy 4th of July party recipe, Star Spangled Cake Mix Cookies.
Star Spangled Cake Mix Cookie Ingredients:
1 box of white cake mix, any brand
2 tbs. flour
1/2 C. vegetable oil
2 egg whites
1/2 C. red, white and blue sprinkles
#1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
#2. Combine the cake mix, flour, vegetable oil and egg whites. Mix well.
#3. Add in the patriotic sprinkles, mixing well.
#4. Scoop a tablespoon at a time of the cookie dough and roll into a ball using your hands. Place 2-3″ a part on a cookie sheet.
#5. Bake 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Do not over-bake.
*Makes approximately 2 dozen cookies.
These delicious treats will be a hit with any crowd -especially the cook! Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to a week. That is, if you have any left! Even picky eaters will love these sweet snacks.
Here’s an interesting 4th of July party fact – John Adams, one of the five men who drafted the formal declaration of independence, wrote to his wife predicting the year celebration stating the holiday, “will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival” and the celebrations will include “Pomp and Parade…games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other.” However, Adams felt this yearly celebration would be July 2nd when the Continental Congress voted to for independence from Great Britain, not July 4th when it was formally adopted by congress. John would refuse to go to any parties on the 4th of July in protest of the date.
